Lucas Oil Speedway to introduce monthly Kids Power Wheel Races in 2022

WHEATLAND, MO. (Jan. 17, 2022) - Introducing youngsters to the sport of racing has been a priority at Lucas Oil Speedway and that will continue in an even bigger way in 2022 with the introduction of Kids Power Wheel Races.

Kids ages 3-9 will drive their own battery-powered Power Wheel cars during intermission, on the front straightaway, once per month during the Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series season. Scheduled dates are April 30, May 21, June 18, July 30 and Aug. 27.

“We’ll hold the races in two classes and they will be free to enter,” Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Danny Lorton said. “One class will be for the 6-12 volt class and number two will be for the 24-36 volt class. No power or speed enhancement modifications will be allowed.

“We want to keep this fun and safe for the kids. It’s free for them to race, all they need are their own cars and admission tickets. We’ll give awards to the top three in each class. This will be another fun way for the kids to be involved and I think the fans will enjoy it as well.

“Just for fun and for the kids, we plan to do like a mini-championship points, just like our regular championship points. After the August 27th Power Wheel race, we can crown a champion in each class.”

Lorton said a mini-track will be set up on the front stretch, outlined with cones, for the youngsters to navigate.

The last two years also has seen the growth of the Frogs Jr Fan Club with a Pit Tour prior to each dirt-track racing program. Flagman Mike Striegel leads a pit tour for youngsters ages 5-12 with the youngsters signing up for a drawing each week to be a part of the tour..

“They’re the future of the sport,” Striegel said last summer of why giving youngsters a special, behind-the-scenes view of the racing operation is important to him. “Without the kids getting involved, the sport dies off. It’s generations that keep the sport going.”

Lucas Oil Speedway has an open Test and Tune set for April 9 and another for April 16, followed by the "Easter Bowl 150" Enduro race on April 16 after that test and tune. The 9th annual Pitts Homes MLRA Spring Nationals are set for April 22-23. The Weekly Racing Series Spring Opener opener is set for April 30.

Season passes available: Admissions Director Nichole McMillan reminds all fans that Lucas Oil Speedway also is offering season passes for all events at the speedway in 2022. Those prices are:

Dirt track: Adults (ages 16-61) $500; Seniors (62 and over) $400.

Each season pass holder is entitled to one reserved stadium-style seat, complete with high backs and armrests located in the top six rows of the main grandstand of the dirt track.
