Pro Pulling Nationals next after quiet weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway

By Lyndal Scranton (Wheatland, MO) -- Following a weekend of record-breaking speed on Lake Lucas and a memorable Lucas Oil MLRA Larry Phillips Memorial at the dirt track, Lucas Oil Speedway will take this weekend off before continuing a huge stretch of season-ending special events.

Action resumes on Sept. 14-15 with the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling Nationals, featuring two nights of some of the nation's most-powerful trucks and tractors. The infield in front of the main grandstand will be transformed into a pulling area for the powerful machines, with gates opening at 4 p.m. both nights and pulling set for 7 p.m. on Sept. 14 and 6 p.m. on Sept. 15.

Classes in action on Friday tentatively include the Light Weight Super Stock Tractors, Mini Rod Tractors, Limited Pro Stock Diesel Trucks and Limited Pro Stock Tractors. On Saturday, classes include Super Modified Tractors, Unlimited Super Stock Tractors, Super Farm Tractors, Super Modified 2WD Trucks, Pro Modified 4WD Trucks and 10,000 Pro Stock Tractors.

"This is always one of the most popular events of the season and the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League never fails to put on a terrific show," Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Dan Robinson said.

The big Labor Day Weekend of racing included the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series 8th annual Diamond Drag Boat Nationals, where Mike Robbins in Nitro Nuts set a new Top Fuel Hydro record with a speed of 243 miles per hour on the 875-foot course. Meanwhile, Will Vaught captured the MLRA Larry Phillips Memorial at the dirt track, taking home $5,075.

Before the Phillips Memorial, Robinson announced that beginning in 2019 the final Weekly Racing Series program will be named the "Rowdy and Julia Rempfer Season Championships."

The Rempfers, who worked at the speedway, were killed in an automobile accident on August 25. Harold "Rowdy" Rempfer also was Mayor of Wheatland.

"Rowdy and Julia were beloved members of our community and our Lucas Oil Speedway family and this is something that we can do to honor their memory," Robinson said.
