Lucas Oil Speedway looking to give away at least 100 bikes on Kids' Bicycle Night, set for July 5
By Lyndal Scranton (Wheatland, MO) -- After giving away 85 bicycles on Lucas Oil Speedway's Kids' Night at the Races last summer, plans are to award at least 100 this time around.
The annual Frog's Signs Junior Fan Club event is set for July 5, during the Thursday Night Thunder edition of the Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series Presented by Casey's General Stores and KY3.
"We are currently seeking sponsors to help with our goal of giving away 100 bicycles or more," Lucas Oil Speedway Assistant General Manager Danny Lorton said, noting that last year saw 30 more bikes given away than the year before.
The giveaway is a part of the Frog's Signs Junior Fan Club, for youngsters ages 5-12. Kids can register for the club on the midway that night for a chance to win a free bicycle during intermission of the racing program.
Lorton is asking speedway drivers, crew members, sponsors and fans for help. Anyone who wants to donate a new bicycle, either a boys or girls model, or money to help purchase bicycles can contact Lorton at the Lucas Oil Speedway office (417) 282-5984 or via email at DLorton@LucasOilSpeedway.com.
"We want to go well past the total of a year ago and make it a memorable night for the kids coming to the races," Lorton added. "This is a great opportunity to help a child out that may not already have a bicycle, or a while who needs a new bicycle."
New bicycles - boys and girls models - also can be dropped off at the track or donations can be dropped off at the speedway office or mailed to Lucas Oil Speedway, 700 East Highway 54, Wheatland, Mo., 65779. Checks should be made out to Lucas Oil Speedway and marked "Bicycle Giveaway."
Drawings for the bicycles will be based on age groups and size of the bicycles.
A big fireworks show, courtesy of AM Pyrotechnics, also is scheduled for after the action that night. On the track, drivers will battle in the Warsaw Auto Marine & RV ULMA Late Models, the Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds, the Big O Tires Street Stocks, and the Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods. The Warsaw Auto Marine & RV ULMA Late Models will be the featured class of the evening as they run a special 25-lap, $1,000 to win main event courtesy of Rains Ice.
