Level 5 Off Road UTV Racing Series set for first of three 2018 programs at Lucas Oil Speedway

By Lyndal Scranton (Wheatland, MO) -- When Ryan Kenaga organized his first off road race a few years ago, it most definitely was a grassroots beginning.

"I started out one summer on some leased farm land and kind of threw together a small track," Kenaga, a resident of northwest Arkansas said.

That first event attracted a surprisingly high number of cars and interest. It grew into what's now the Level 5 Off Road/UTV Racing Regional Championship Series. which Kenaga oversees. Next up is a visit to Lucas Oil Speedway's off road track for the first of three 2018 programs, this Friday and Saturday.

"We're a small organization that's grown like crazy over the last few years," Kenaga said. "Getting the call from Lucas Oil to come up there was incredible. It's like getting the call up to the big leagues to pitch for the Yankees or something. It's just an incredible opportunity."

Move-in is Friday, with no on-track activity that day. Spectator gates open at 9 a.m. Saturday with practice at 10 a.m. and heat races at 11:30 a.m. Opening ceremonies are set for 3 p.m. and precede precede the feature events for all classes - Pro Unlimited, Production 1000, RS1, Sportsman and Youth.

The awards ceremony will be held at approximately 5 p.m. All fans purchasing off road tickets will be admitted free to Saturday night's Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series program next door, which begins with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7.

Kenaga said the Level 5 Off Road Series, and a facility like the one at Lucas, fills a needed void in the central part of the United States for short-course racing. He expects possibly 100 or more entries this weekend, but said he would be pleased with 70-75.

"It's gonna be exciting to race there," he said. "We have the brand-new single-seater RS1s for Polaris. We're one of the few series running a single-seat class, RS1-specific class.

"We pride ourselves on being the premier off road series in the middle part of the country, in this 4-5 state area. It's proven to work out for us so far."
