Domer ready to break through at Lucas Oil Speedway

By Lyndal Scranton (Wheatland, MO) -- Chase Domer had few complaints about his 2016 season at Lucas Oil Speedway, finishing a solid fourth in Pitts Homes USRA Modified points even without running a full schedule.

But the 27-year-old from Nevada is determined to bust through a barrier this year.

"We really don't try to points race because it seems like something always come up where you you have to miss a race here or there," Domer said. "But I'd definitely like to get more wins this year. Over at Lucas, for sure.

"We haven't ever won over at Lucas and we've been racing there for a few years now. So we're looking to win at Lucas along with picking up a few more wins elsewhere, too."

With the season-opening Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series program coming up on April 8, Domer hopes to carry over some momentum from a strong finish. He had third-place runs in two features at Lucas in the final month of last season, boosting him up the points list behind only track champion Jeff Cutshaw, Jason Pursley and Mike Striegel.

"It was a pretty good year, really solid," Domer said. "The offseason has been an expensive one. But a good one."

That's because of a blown motor last fall at Lakeside Speedway finished his season. But over the last few weeks, the new motor has been installed and final touches put on the car.

It's almost time to race again. Domer is closing in on a decade in the sport, starting as an 18-year-old in the Street Stock division.

He's been in "A" Mods the last six years and feels right at home in the class.

"You can go about anywhere and race them," Domer said of his preference for the division. "There are about 10 tracks within a couple of hours (of Nevada) you can go and race at. There's a lot of different options.

"The competition is really good. My dad (Berry Domer) raced A Mods while I was growing up and I always enjoyed watching him. He drove the Dirt Works house car while Dirt Works was still going. Then when I started taking an interest in racing, when I was a senior in high school, my grandpa (Kenny Rains) bought me my first race car."

Berry Domer raced at various Ozarks tracks, including the old Wheatland Raceway that preceded Lucas Oil Speedway. Now the three generations work together on Chase's car.

Sponsors include Schulze Racing Engines, Crosstown Vending, Allen's Automotive, McCord Septic, Ashley Fabrication and Troop 4 Motorsports.

The Lucas Oil Speedway 2017 schedule fires up with the Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series opener on April 8 followed by the 4th annual MLRA Spring Nationals Presented by RacingJunk.com on April 14-15. A practice day is set for April 1 at the speedway.
